Biography

Adam Jackson - Composer

Music has always been a passion of mine and everything I have done in my life has led me to this moment in time. I am a classically trained pianist and I have had the honour of working with many inspirational teachers and musicians over the years.

Composition has been at the centre of all my musical imaginations and aspirations. As a young boy I would often imagine my life through films, and music was always the driving force behind them. Music brings dreams to life and enables anything to become a possibility.

My journey with composition started as far back as I can remember. I would sit at the piano improvising melodies and creating chord sequences, often inspired by an emotion or a film that captured my young creative thoughts. I found it an exhilarating experience to create new and wonderful worlds, armed only with my imagination and a piano to play. I gradually learnt how to write my music down and created a system of personal notes and traditional notation. My compositions guided me through secondary school, and I left with my A Level in music. This led to the opportunity of composition study at Colchester Institute with well respected composers and leading educators. It is here where I was able to further hone my musical skills and it enabled me to explore the vast and exciting world of music technology and media. I left with a BA(Hons) in music and a new direction.

I always felt the pull towards education and working with young minds. I enlisted with the London Arts Consortium (LAC) and gained qualified teacher status (QTS). This naturally led me to working in schools, where I became the Head of Music at a new state secondary school teaching 11-18 year olds. Over the next decade I developed my understanding of music and worked with some outstanding young talent. I also found myself in a fortunate position where I was able to take on a diverse and enthusiastic cohort of learners, who wanted to learn how to play the piano and who wanted to explore musical theory. There is a great sense of achievement when you can inspire and develop the skills of a young person and watch them mature with confidence and musicality, moving on to high profile jobs in the music industry or to outstanding universities to further study music. For a time I was delving deeper and deeper into the world of education, and I was determined to learn as much as I could. I enrolled on a Masters course at Middlesex University, whilst still heading a department, and 4 years later gained my MA in Education. 

Whether I am teaching or composing at the heart of this is my love of Music.
